You should avoid eating foods that do not add value to your body.Health foods can be classified into four major categories.
Proteins - These are some of the components that are found in food that help the body to grow and repair any damage to the tissue. They are sometimes referred to as body building foods. They are mainly found in animal products like meat and milk and also in pulses such as beans. Care should be taken when you consume these foods because they are not easily digested. There are some foods that contain protein that you should avoid because of their high cholesterol content. These include foods such as red meat and chicken skin that have a lot of fat. An alternative for these can be fish and lean meat. Vegetarians do not have to worry as they can get their protein from the many legumes available.
Carbohydrates include foods like grains like pasta, rice, wheat, potatoes and cassavas that supply the body with the fuel that it requires staying in operation. Sources of carbohydrates include whole grain foods as opposed to refined; these are foods like whole wheat bread, brown rice, and foods that have not been purified.
Vitamins - These are important because they protect the body from infections. They are derived from fruits and vegetables. For each day you are advised to take about five servings of fruit. If you want to lose some weight, you are advised to eat lots of fruit. This is because they give the body the energy it needs and at the same time giving you a feeling of fullness therefore you will not eat as much. Some people decide to take vitamin supplements but remember these are not as effective as the natural ones. This is because they do not have the natural vitamin. When you cook these foods, their nutritive value is destroyed.
Fiber - This is what the body uses to digest food and prevent constipation. It also helps against colon cancer. A good example is cabbage. The next time you sit down to have a meal, take note of its nutritive value.
